Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how HAP works, who it's for, and what to expect — no clinical jargon, no runaround.

No. We offer non-clinical peer support. We don't hand out medical diagnoses or write prescriptions. Our focus is entirely on practical life skills, handling stress, and real human-to-animal connection.

We are 100% mobile. We bring our private mobile unit right to your home, a local community center, or an outdoor nature spot anywhere across PEI.

We bypass the public waitlists. Our goal is to get a mobile peer mentor and a therapy animal out to you within 72 hours of you getting in touch.

Absolutely not. Our sessions are built around real, hands-on strategies. We focus on cutting down stress, building regular daily habits, and getting you to where you want to be. Often, we are moving around, hanging out with our trained dogs, or out on a trail where you don't feel trapped under a microscope.

No. HAP is a completely independent, non-clinical service. Your files are kept on a secure, private, Canadian-hosted system. Your privacy is locked down tight, subject only to standard legal safety rules (like keeping you or others safe from immediate harm). What you work through stays between you, your peer mentor, and the animal.

Yes. We run a flexible schedule from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM to help guys who work irregular shifts, part-time jobs, or have kids to look after. Because we are mobile, we can meet you on a break, at your house, or a local spot so you don't lose half a day travelling out to a clinic.

You are exactly who we built this for. Our team operates on a lived-experience basis—meaning we understand the heavy stress of coming back into the community because we know what recovery and rebuilding look like firsthand. There is zero judgment, zero clinical box-ticking, and a 100% focus on your next step forward.

Many guys placed in supportive or transitional housing struggle when they suddenly lose the rigid routine of an institution. HAP brings hands-on, non-clinical help right to their doorstep. Our peer mentors collaborate with clients to build out a daily schedule, stick to small routines (like keeping up with their living space and showing up to appointments), and learn basic life skills. This directly cuts down on evictions and property issues.

Yes. Helping guys get back on their feet and stay out of trouble is a core part of what we do. We provide structured peer-led accountability circles and 1:1 mobile sessions designed to break through the heavy isolation that often leads to reoffending. Because our team has lived experience, we can break through walls that traditional clinical or law-enforcement approaches often hit.

Even though our work is peer-led and activity-based, we make sure we run a safe, professional setup. Knowing a client's primary diagnoses and medication schedule helps us spot if behaviors change drastically, lets us help clients stay on track with things like blister packs, and keeps our staff, clients, and therapy animals entirely safe during mobile visits.
